Clearly, Roddenberry knew what he was doing when he gave that ship its name, then.

You might want to rename the "Enterprise". Paramount might want to sue....

U.S.S Enterprise (CVN-80) will be a US Gerald Ford-class aircraft carrier (see link), and has been the name of 7 other ships in US history since 1775. CVN-80 will enter service in 2028 (although I'd bet on 2030 given USS Gerald Ford's troubles.

Gene Roddenberry only borrowed it. At the time of Star Trek, the USS Enterprise was the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier (1961-2017), and before that it was the most decorated aircraft carrier in WWII.

There will probably always be a USS Enterprise in the US Naval fleet. At the time of this story, USS Enterprise has been built.
